February is always a hard month. It's the month that brings bugs to our family, and usually for me, a lot of time off. Happened last year, happening this year. This means I usually make few items in February on my lathe - and whilst that is frustrating in one way, it gives me a chance to think about what I'm doing and plan for the future.
I've had a little time to take some photos on better days too - so here is one of me, working at my lathe - or in fact pretending to work at my lathe in this instance. I'm a wood turner, passionate about working with wood, something I've loved doing for 14 years in various ways, and despite it being not a good month, that passion still stays with me.
Perhaps I should explain the photo. It shows me my lathe, where I work seated due to my having had Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS - autonomic condition) for many years. PoTS which means an increased heart rate when I stand and exhaustion, neither of which are safe when using any type of machinery. Wood turning seated isn't easy - it's harder to get the body movement around the work - safety is even more important - I can't as easily jump out of the way if something goes wrong - so I have to be more careful with my safety - and plan a quick exit route.
Hopefully once these bugs have passed I'll be back to making more things.
