About Me
My name is David Rodgers, I was born in 1973 in UK, live north of London in Buckinghamshire. Married with 2 children, whom I have always helped to look after/do school runs etc.
Worked with wood for 14+ years, using traditional techniques, something I'm passionate about, with focus on wood turning (which I first did in 1980s at school). I love it's varying texture and characteristics, focusing particularly on English Hardwoods, some of which are sourced locally. See my Working Practice section for more information.
Priorities
Priorities & Output
My priorities are my family (children and relatives we help care for), my work has to fit around this, such as school holidays / if they're unwell etc. Due to this & my health conditions, I make limited numbers of quality items.
Voluntary Work
I volunteer for a medical charity, running a men's group, supporting men with long term health conditions. I'm also a trustee for a separate charity working with young people.
Music & Art
Music is important to me - brought up as chorister in local parish church until later teenager, had privilege of standing in for Cathedral choirs at various times. Continued similar at University. Played Saxophone for many years until my health stopped me - enjoyed this a lot - playing in a variety of bands from Jazz to Soul/Motown.
For sometime I was Secretary then Chairman of a local art group, something I enjoyed, as Art is also important to me.
I've also done a reasonable amount of printmaking - primarily using wooden blocks I carve to make prints, along with some letter press. Print shown here is of a penguin, carved by myself on an Ash wood block, and printed using print making inks/paper.
