Aftercare
I hope that your items will give many trouble free year's service. This page lets you know how to look after them, to do this.
All items are made of wood, with an appropriate finish (see Finishes). Use a dry cloth to clean, or slightly damp cloth if necessary. For stubborn stains you may need a very small amount of detergent (check detergent first).
Some finishes used might need touching up from time to time, do discuss with me before hand if needed.
Like many other wooden items, my items should not be submerged in water; they are not dish washer or microwave safe.
Colour Changes
Most woods change colour when exposed to light - generally they darken (look at Oak furniture 100s of years old, it is much darker than any freshly cut oak). This is a natural process and little can be done to stop it. So, expect any item you buy from me to change colour over time - this might not happen immediately however.
The Danish Oil finish I use protects, to some extent, against UV rays, which may reduce/prolong this effect - it won't stop it though. Items should be kept out of direct/strong sunlight for extender periods of time, otherwise the wood may discolour. They should also be kept away from high/large temperature changes - e.g. being near a radiator, as this could cause the wood to split & damage the finish.
Finishes Used
In the past 14+ years, I've used a number of finishes, which offer a variety of features, and now use Danish Oil, Finishing Oil and Microcrystalline Wax. I also hope to restart using lacquers again soon.
The finish used for items purchased will be clearly stated at point of purchase.
